j e w el hill ele c tr on i c co., ltd . 10. precautions for using lcd modules 10.1. handling precautions (1) the display panel is m a de of glass. do not s ubject it to a m echanical shock or im pact by dropping it. (2) if the display panel is dam a ged and the liquid crys tal substance leaks out, be sure not to get any in your m outh. if the substance contacts your skin or clothes, wash it off using soap and water. (3) do not apply excessive force to the display surface or the adjoining areas since this m a y cause the color tone to vary. (4) the polarizer covering the display surface of th e lcd m odule is soft and easily scratched. handle this polarizer carefully. (5) if the display surface becom e s contam inated, breat he on the surface and gently wipe it with a soft dry cloth. if it is heavily contam inated, m o isten a cloth with one of the following solvents: - isopropyl alcohol - ethyl alcohol (6) solvents other than those above m e ntioned m a y dam a ge the polarizer. especially, do not use the following: - w a ter - ketone - arom atic solvents (7) extra care to m i nim i ze corrosion of the electr ode. w a ter droplets, m o isture condensation or a current flow in a high-hum idity environm ent accelerates corrosion of the electrode. (8) install the lcd module by using the m ounting holes. w h en m ounting the lcd module, m a ke sure it is free of twisting, warping and distortion. in particular, do not forcibly pull or bend the i/o cable or the backlight cable. (9) do not attem p t to disassem b le or process the lcd module. (10) nc term inal should be open. do not connect anything. (11) if the logic circuit power is off, do not apply the input signals. (12) to prevent destruction of the elem ents by sta tic electricity, be caref ul to m a intain an optim um work environm ent. - be sure to ground the body when handling he lcd module. - tools required for assem b ling, such as soldering irons, m u st be properly grounded. -to reduce the am ount of static electricity generated, do not conduct assem b ling and other work under dry conditions. gt2016 ver: 1.0 - 2 2 - issue date: 2005/11/1201
j e w el hill ele c tr on i c co., ltd . -the lcd module is coated with a film to protect the display surface. exercise care when peeling off this protective film since static electricity m a y be generated. 10.2. storage conditions w h en storing, avoid the lcd m odule to be exposed to direct sunlight of fluorescent lam p s. for stability, to keep it away form high tem p erature and high hum idity environm ent (the best condition is : 235c, 4520%rh). esd protection is necessary for long-term storage also. 10.3. others liquid crystals solidify under low tem p erature (bel ow the storage tem p erature range) leading to defective orientation or the generation of air bubbl es (black or white). air bubbles m a y also be generated if the m odule is subject to a low tem p erature. if the lcd module have been operating for a long tim e showing the sam e display patterns the display patterns m a y rem a in on the screen as ghost im ages a nd a slight contrast irregularity m a y also appear. a norm a l operating status can be recovered by suspe nding use for som e tim e. it should be noted that this phenom enon does not adversely affect perform a nce reliability. to m i nim i ze the perform a nce degradation of the lcd module resulting from destruction caused by static electricity etc. exercise care to avoid hol ding the following sections when handling the m odules. - exposed area of the printed circuit board. - term inal electrode sections. gt2016 ver: 1.0 - 2 3 - issue date: 2005/11/1201
j e w el hill ele c tr on i c co., ltd . 11. using lcd modules 12.1 liquid crystal display modules lcd is com posed of glass and polarizer. pay attention to the following item s when handling. (1) please keep the tem p erature within specified ra nge for use and storage. polarization degradation, bubble generation or polarizer peel-off m a y o ccur with high tem p erature and high hum idity. (2) do not touch, push or rub the exposed polarizers w ith anything harder than a hb pencil lead (glass, tweezers, etc). (3) n-hexane is recom m e nded for cleaning the adhe sives used to attach front/rear polarizers and reflectors m a de of organic substances, which will be dam a ged by chem icals such as acetone, toluene, toluene, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol. (4) w h en the display surface becom e s dusty, wipe gen tly with absorbent cotton or other soft m a terial like cham ois soaked in petroleum ether. do not scrub hard to avoid dam a ging the display surface. (5) w i pe off saliva or water drops im m e diately, contact with water over a long period of tim e m a y cause deform ation or color fading. (6) avoid contacting oil and fats. (7) condensation on the surface and contact with term inals due to cold will dam a ge, stain or polarizers. after products are tested at low tem p erature they m u st be warm ed up in a container before com i ng is contacting with room tem p erature air. (8) do not put or attach anything on the display area to avoid leaving m a rks on. (9) do not touch the display with bare hands. this will stain the display area and degrade insulation between term inals (som e cosm etics are determ inate to the polarizers). (10)as glass is fragile, it tends to becom e or ch ipped during handling especially on the edges. please avoid dropping or jarring. 12.2 installing lcd module attend to the f o llowing item s when installing the lcm. (1) cover the surface with a transparent protectiv e plate to protect the polarizer and lc cell. (2) w h en assem b ling the lcm into other equipm ent, the spacer to the bit between the lcm and the fitting plate should have enough height to avoid cau sing stress to the m odule surface, refer to the individual specifications for m easurem ents. the m easurem ent tolerance should be 0.1m m . 12.3 electro-static discharge control since this m odule uses a cmos lsi, the sam e car eful attention should be paid for electrostatic discharge as for an ordinary cmos ic. gt2016 ver: 1.0 - 2 4 - issue date: 2005/11/1201

(2) before rem oving lcm from its packing case or in corporating it into a set, be sure the m odule and your body have the sam e electric potential. (3) w h en soldering the term inal of lcm, m a ke certain the ac power source for the soldering iron does not leak. (4) w h en using an electric screwdriver to a ttach lcm, the screwdriver should be of ground potentiality to m i nim i ze as m u ch as possible a ny transm ission of electrom a gnetic waves produced sparks com i ng from the com m u tator of the m o tor. (5) as far as possible, m a ke the electric potential of your work clothes and that of the workbenches to the ground potential. (6) to reduce the generation of electro-static discharge, be careful that the air in the work is not too dried. a relative hum idity of 50%-60% is recom m e nded. 12.4 precautions for operation (1) viewing angle varies with the change of liquid crystal driving voltage (vo). adjust vo to show the best contrast. (2) driving the lcd in the voltage above the lim it will shorten its lifetim e. (3) response tim e is greatly delayed at tem p eratur e below the operating tem p erature range. however, this does not m ean the lcd will be out of the order. it will recover when it returns to the specif i ed tem p erature range. (4) if the display area is pushed hard during opera tion, the display will becom e abnorm a l. however, it will return to norm a l if it is turned off and then on. (5) condensation on term inals can cause an electroch em ical reaction disrupting the term inal circuit. therefore, this product m u st be used and stor ed within the specified condition of 235c, 4520%rh. (6) when turning the power on, input each signal after the positive/negative voltage becom e s stable. 12.5 safety (1) it is recom m e nded to crush dam a ged or unnece ssary lcds into pieces and wash them off with solvents such as acetone and ethanol, which should later be burned. (2) if any liquid leaks out of a dam a ged glass ce ll and com e s in contact with the hands, wash off thoroughly with soap and water. gt2016 ver: 1.0 - 2 5 - issue date: 2005/11/1201
